You can apply and obtain TALA – Tourism License in Tanzania by following three steps. First register with BRELA. Second get company TIN and Tax Clearance from TRA. Third prepare everything required by Tanzania Tourism Licensing Board (TTLB). Fourth submit your application for TALA to TTLB. Fifth apply for municipality business license. Sixth get the rest of the registrations.

Step 1: Register with BRELA

Propose a name for your tourism agency, prepare incorporation documents and incorporate a company at BRELA. Click here to read BRELA Company Registration Procedures.

Step 2: Register with TRA (Get TIN & Tax Clearance)

You then need to get your company registered with Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA). TRA requires a copy of memarts, copy of incorporation certificate, BRELA official search report, local government introduction letter, copies of Directors’ IDs, and copies of Directors’ TIN certificates.

Step 3: Submit your Application for TALA Tourism License

Visit the MNRT Portal accessible at portal.maliasili.go.tz, complete the account creation form and then

CLASSES OF TOURISM LICENSES (TALA) IN TANZANIA
There are four classes/ divisions of tourism licenses depending on the type of activity, Class A, Class B, Class C and Class D.

TOUR OPERATOR VS TRAVEL AGENT

Tourism operator refers to an individual or a company engaged in the provision of professional ground transport for the game viewing and selling of tour package to a ” Tourism Agent”. All tourism operators need a license.
Travel agent refers to an individual or a company engaged in the sale of professional services to travelers including:
Selling of tickets entitling and individual to travel or other wise arranging for a person a right of passage on any conveyance
Selling, arranging or making available for a person rights of passage, tourism accommodations and other tourist services at one place or more within or outside Tanzania
Purchasing for the resale the right of passage on any conveyance
Holding him/herself out as or advertises that the is willing to carry on any activity referred to in (a) (b) or (c)

TOURISM LICENSE (TALA) FEES IN TANZANIA
The Minister proposes to reduce TALA License (Tanzania Tourism Business License) for travel agents from USD 2,000 to USD 500 to promote the tourism industry – Budget 2021/22

TOUR OPERATOR TOURISM LICENSE (TALA) REQUIREMENTS IN TANZANIA

1. Vehicle (4WD) registration cards

Tour vehicles must not be more than 5 years old from date of registration
Vehicles must be registered under company name
Have a fleet of not less than 3 and increase to 5 or more within a period of 24 months since registration

2. Vehicle inspection report
A company practicing more than one tourism activity from different classes as seen in the link will have to register and apply for several licenses.
